Finally, A Walk To Remember!

Whooff! Ever since the cold white stuff showed up on the ground, stepping outside with CK became more of a quick bathroom break. It wasn’t that long ago, when the sun would wake up early and go to sleep late at night, when I would hear the birds annoyingly sing their tunes, and when I would see chipmunks staring at me begging me to chase them. It was then, that CK and I would go for long walks.

I love my walks, sniffing the ground, grass and every ant that passed by. I love running and jumping up and down, to say hello to every human I see. I love to stop and admire the poles and red stumps (I think CK calls them fire hydrants) on every block.

Sometimes, when CK is up for the challenge we would go for a long run. I would have a stick in my mouth, pretending it’s a rabbit that I just caught and we would run, but stop often because CK needs to catch his breath. Bwafff…, what a wimp!

I missed those times, at first when the white stuff began to show up on the ground, I was curious and excited, I sniffed and licked, sniff, sniff, lick, lick — oh wait, bathroom break — then continue to lick and sniff the white stuff, which tasted pretty good. I was thrilled that this was something different, but I noticed that I was getting cold and so was CK. I didn’t mind the cold weather, as long as I had my sweater, but I think CK did, and each day our walks turned into a quick one.

So on this evening, CK and I finally decided to go for a long walk, and boy, was he in for it. I yanked and pulled and was leading the walk and going everywhere I wanted to go. I took every opportunity to stop, sniff and lick. What did he expect, I’m a Jack Russell Terrier, I need my exercise, running around the house, playing tug of war or chasing my sister Nemo is not enough. Doesn’t he realize that I am a big growing boy! We dogs, take our walks seriously, it’s sacred to us. Our ancestors have been doing it for thousands of years. It’s in our blood to carry this tradition.

When the walk finally ended, and we got back in the house getting ready for bed, CK sat on the couch and looked at me. He started talking but I can never understand what he says, but I can feel his energy and I sense that he was not happy by the way I behaved during our walk, the walk that we both used to enjoy.

I sat beside him and rested my head on his lap to give him some love to thank him for the walk. He looked at me and smiled with his eyes and returned the love back by petting me on the head. He started to talk to me again, but his bark didn’t make sense. Instead, I felt his energy saying that he was sorry for not going on walks more often with me. I accepted his apology as I gave him a lick on the face. I think after tonight we will begin going on longer walks again!
