For many pet owners, the news of Petcetera closing it’s door came it with some mixed emotions.
When I first heard of this news, I was surprised at how a large chain store went bankrupt? On the home page of Petcetera, it has a Receivership Process Summary. Where PWC Inc, was appointed Trustee in. Bankruptcy and Receiver Manager of Canadian Petcetera Limited on June 16, 2009.
Here are my thoughts on it….
The Good
SALE, SALE, SALE. Petcetera is having a massive liquidation sale. Everything from food, toys, clothes, beds, and pets. Everything that a pet owner wishes for. We all understand the financial cost it is to care for our furry friends, so we appreciate and jump for joy when we see sales.
The Bad
There are 45 stores across Canada that will close it’s doors, which also means that over 1,600 jobs will be lost. In today’s economic uncertainty, every job is valuable. I’m sad to see another Canadian business collapse.
The Ugly
For those of us who are grateful and bless to have a home, a job and our furry companion. We are sad to know that some of these animals will not be as blessed. Many of them will end up in shelters waiting for adoption. SPCA is stepping in to find loving homes for these animals.
So with that, I’ll leave you with my advice to myself and for some of you out there. Visit your nearest Petcetera and purchase items for your pets or (future pets). Continue to support your local pet stores, and finally when you are considering getting a new friend, or thinking of getting your very first pet. Check out your local shelters first. You’ll be surprised at who picks you.

Meet Cooper Reid. A six year old Rottweiler. This guy is sooo cool. He is huge, strong, and confident. He is the security guard of the NMC Weekend Dog Park. Whenever things start to get too crazy with other dogs, he gets in there and stops it. Everyone pretty much listens to Cooper, look at him. Who’s crazy enough to mess with this guy! (Not Me), LOL.
But what I really like about Cooper, is that he is still a puppy at heart. He loves to play fetch with his Tennis Ball and you will always catch him with a smile…and some drool…Rhaff-Rhaff!
